About Kim Helman

Thank you for taking time to look at the Kimterpreting website.

I am a Registered British Sign Language/ English Interpreter. This means I am:

  • Registered with NRCPD (reg number: 101589X)
  • A member of the Association of Sign Language Interpreters (ASLI)
  • Fully insured and DBS checked

For more information on what this all means, please visit the Services and Rates page.

My interest in British Sign Language began in 2009. Since then I have worked my way through the Signature NVQ levels in British Sign Language.  I achieved the SLI Advanced Diploma in BSL-English Interpreting and Translation in 2017 and registered with NRCPD as a Registered Sign Language Interpreter (RSLI).

In addition to formal courses and qualifications, I am committed to exploring interpreting skills by completing various workshops and courses including Sign Language Linguistics taught by Rachel Sutton-Spence, workshops focussing on theatre and live music interpreting and other domain specific training.

I enjoy volunteering and have been fortunate enough to work with organisations such as Sense and at national events including Deaf World as well as supporting local community and charity organisations.

I have a BSc (hons) degree in Applied Psychology and Sociology from the University of Surrey and have extensive experience working in non-interpreting roles in Mental Health and Adult Social Care settings since 2004.

My other interests include exploring areas by foot and on bike, open-water swimming (summer only!), yoga and tending to my garden with the 'assistance' of my cats.

Punctuality and preparation are important to me and I am professional and flexible in my approach. I am even tempered, have a positive outlook and enjoy meeting new people.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to ask any questions. I'm always happy to discuss interpreting and if I am not able to assist, I am part of a wide network of professional interpreters and translators so I will usually be able to put you in touch with someone who can meet your requirements.
